The agri-food sector


The agri-food sector is one of the territory’s most dynamic, and through its participation in rural development and the provision of employment, it fully contibutes to the Béarn’s renown. 2nd industry in the number of establishments (more than 1200) and 3rd in the number of jobs, it is one of the economic driving forces of the region. At the centre of the Agri Sud Ouest competitiveness cluster, the sector is carried by major international groups such as Euralis, Candia, Lindt & Sprungli as well as local companies such as the « Fromagerie des Chaumes » and Michaud.

Over the years, the Pau Pyrenees territory has established itself as a brand leader in the valuation of labelled high quality products : 5 AOC wines, 7 PGI labels and 7 (free-range) « Red Labels ».

THE HIGH GROWTH OF THE BIOENERGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY MARKETS IS AN INDICATION OF INNOVATION IN THIS SECTOR.
